Many of the older people in society nowadays will tell you that young adults have it easy – and while they do have it significantly better when compared to the old standards of living people used to hold, it isn’t a cake walk by any means. There are still a lot of problems that young adults (and younger people in general) have to deal with these days, and they have to deal with it on an abundance of different levels. Mental illness and making sure that our youth is mentally capable of handling life in a whole is important, which is why talking about anxiety/depression is something that needs to be done. There are many young adults in the world that deal with mental issues, depression and anxiety being among the most common ones you’ll find. There are many different medications to take in order to handle your anxiety, but that’s an entirely different issue altogether; what we’re talking about today is why young adults are having to deal with this problem.
Although the pressure of living life probably hasn’t peaked, it can be tough for young adults to process certain situations. There are 5 specific things that I feel like could attribute to depression and anxiety being so prevalent among the youth these days, all of which are something that most (if not all) teenagers and young adults have to go through. It isn’t like things seem in movies and TV – this is real life.
1. Break-Up/Relationship Issue
When you’re a young adult, having a relationship can be very important. To many people, it’s one of the most important things to obtain at this point in time; they want a spouse to call their own. As wonderful as it sounds, it also calls for a lot more “baggage” (so to speak). People find themselves worried about how to keep the relationship fresh, as well as wondering whether the spouse is going to remain faithful or not. That’s something you’ll always need to worry about with relationships, and it’s better you get used to it in your youth, rather than later; but it’s still a problem. When you go through a tough break-up, it can have an impact on your mental health. There have been cases where someone gets so depressed over a break-up or relationship issues, that they take their own lives. It’s a serious problem that inflicts itself upon many younger people, but it’s something to watch out for throughout the entirety of life.
