In April, Instagram was taken by storm by picture after picture of what is now referred to as ‘feathered eyebrows.’ But fads come and go, and feathered brows have left the building. Now the new, edgy “in” look is all about spiking your eyebrows in opposite directions with gel to achieve the appearance of barbed wire.
Don’t have any hair gel lying around? That’s just fine. Apparently, a glue stick works just as well, according to the folks on Instagram.
Personal disclaimer: It’s really not the smartest idea to put glue anywhere near your eyes. This is not me recommending it.
This controversial new look was initially sported on Instagram by artist Athena Paginton in March, but hadn’t become the polarizing online-debate force that it is now until much more recently. Reactions from the online community range from “Adore it!” to “What the heck are you thinking??”
Some beauty bloggers have taken on the look for themselves, at least to try it out, and have added their own modifications to the look. Some have added drawings of barbed wire over their eyebrows to enhance that quality of this look, while others have gone with more elaborate illustrations under the eyes. There are surely a lot of ways to play with this interesting new look, no matter what you feel about it.
Like their predecessor, feathered eyebrows, it’s not likely that this trend will last for very long before a new eyebrow craze comes sweeping in. But for now, let’s enjoy it (or roast it on the internet) while it lasts.
