Water is life. It is essential to ensure once healthy living. A study from the Mayo clinic showed that its deficiency in the body causes several illnesses which may include: headaches, dizziness fainting and dry skin. It is also evident that nobody ever takes enough water in a day. We are different ranging from our genders, meals we take and also the activities that we per take in a day. Therefore our body requires different proportion in comparison to the above conditions. Initially Mayo clinic advocated for 13 and 9 cups for men and women respectively.
It is for this reason that the Mayo clinic saw it best to design a formula that dictates the amount of water one should consume in a day.
- Take your weight (in lbs.) and divide by 22.
- Multiply that number by your age.
- Divide the sum by 28.3.
- Your total is how many ounces of water you should take in a day.
- Divide by 8 to see the result in cups.
It is the formula for everybody except the people who exercise regularly. They should take an overdose of the formula as more water is lost through sweating. Mayo clinic advices that one should eat foods that have high water content to ensure a hydrated body and a healthy life. This may include fruits and vegetables. A hydrated body falls heal less often. You can study your water levels through your urine, a deep yellow urine shows you are dehydrated while a pale one is of a hydrated body. For effective result it is advised that one should avoid salty foods as they will counter the water function in the body. It will be used to dilute the sodium in the salt and hence extra thirst or stomach bloating.
