Medical science has made things possible which are only imaginable a few years ago. Today, people can get new face, hands, nose and a lot more, thanks to the technological advancements and continuous research in the medical field. Latest development in the transplant surgery is uterus transplant. It is a great hope for the women who cannot conceive.
In a first successful case of uterus transplant in U. S., a woman born without a uterus managed to deliver a baby with this method. At Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, this woman received a uterus from a living donor which was later transplanted after numerous tests and examinations by a team of doctors.
However, this is not the first time such a birth made possible in the world. Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Sweden has already found success in this process in 2014. Since then, 8 babies have been born by different women with the help of uterus transplant in Sweden. But for U.S., this is the first successful case.
In the uterus transplant method, uterus is transplanted from one woman to the other who either born without one or get her uterus diseased later. Transplants in these kinds of surgeries are intended to be temporary since organ is removed after some time of the birth so that woman does not need to take immune-suppressing drugs for lifetime.
