The world we are living in is a busy one and no one has time for a stranger. You mind your business and life goes on. It has also changed as technology has made life easier. We no longer talk to each other and are glued to our phones opting to chat with strangers. Escalators help us move from one building floor to the other and are quickly replacing lifts. It becomes a challenge to use an escalator for the first time as the motor requires matching with its speed. It was the case for a 83 year old man at a Holyoke shopping mall in Massachusetts.
A little redemption for the suffering human soul 😊 The older man was paused at the top of an escalator and a few people…
Alonzo Johnson spotted the elderly citizen hesitate to step on the escalator and thought he could offer him a helping hand. The aged man was unsure about the escalator for he had paused there for a while. Alonzo had to make him feel secure and so like the good old days they looked each other into the eyes and trust was build. This was evident as the man confessed to Johnson that he was scared for he once got stuck on the escalator. Everyone else was patient as the two were on the escalator.
Alonzo did this out of heart and wasn’t expecting that anybody would be watching him. But as we said we are a generation of modern devices, Paula Picard managed to take a touching photo of the pair linking their arms as they went down the escalator together. She further decided to change the news for the normal politics, race and violence to one of a person who helped another. The Facebook post went viral and what Johnson did out of pure kindness would gain him thousands of praises online. It is for this reason that we thank technology for spread such a touching story and reminding us to be human.
